Seeing a great film can be not only a relaxing and fun experience, but it can just as well be life changing- having a profound effect on the way we think about and communicate with the world around us. For this reason, it is not wonder that the movie making business is still going strong and because of this, many movies come out each month. With all these new movies coming out, who can keep up? Here is the movie lover’s guide to current movies.

  1. Ready Player One

Based on a book authored by Earnest Cline, Ready Player One is similar to the storyline of the Matrix, yet different enough to warrant its own attention. Taking place in a dystopian future, the movie finds the year 2045 filled with chaos and economic collapse. As a way to escape, the populace finds solace in a virtual reality world known as The Oasis created by an eccentric genius. When he dies, he promises to pass on his fortune to the one who can find his “digital easter egg” that he has hidden creating a massive competition and contest worldwide.

  1. Black Panther

Introduced during the film Captain America: Civil War, Black Panther finds himself returning to his homeland, the African nation of Wakanda, only to see his claim to the thrown challenged while multiple plots to destroy his homeland are uncovered. Hailed by critics world-wide, this film tackles topics related to race, politics, and economics, all at the same time. With top notch acting and an in depth storyline and plot that will have you philosophizing for hours, Black Panther is sure to deliver as a smart and edgy film with its finger on the pulse of American culture.

  1. A Wrinkle In Time

Based on the famous book, A Wrinkle in Time was widely anticipated and did not manage to live up to its unattainable hype. Nonetheless, the movie was critically acclaimed as a great film and still managed to please the masses. With an all star cast including Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine, the movie follows the story of Meg Murry, the high-schooler who gets caught up in the adventure of a lifetime that sees her travelling through space and time to rescue her captured father.

  1. Beirut

Taking place in the 1980’s during the Lebanese civil war, this film sees the lead protagonist, Mason Skiles- a former U.S. diplomat, reinstated and called back into field service in order to fight a group that may be linked to the death of his own family. Teamed up with a CIA agent who is tasked with making sure the mission is failsafe, the two embark on a spy war worthy of the big screen.

  1. Annihilation

Starring Natalie Portman, this science fiction psychological thriller sees an all woman science team investigating a zone known as “The Shimmer.” In this shimmer zone all laws of nature and science cease to apply and what was once seen as common knowledge no longer can explain the innumerable phenomenon that begin to occur.

A good film can stimulate your mind but relax your psyche. Don’t hesitate to enjoy one when you have the chance.
